Doherty Staffing Solutions, a local staffing agency since 1980

 

When Tim Doherty founded Doherty Staffing Solutions (then Quality Temp) in a down economy in 1980 at the age of 26, it was a family business from the beginning. His dad and brother provided the business guidance and start-up money after taking out second mortgages on their homes. Tim’s mother handwrote payroll checks, and his wife Valerie handled the legal issues.

 


Today with revenue of over $400 million and some 10,000 temporary and client employees in the field on any given day, it’s a little more sophisticated and complex. Okay, it’s a lot more sophisticated and complex, but some things haven’t changed.

 


“Perhaps because we started out so small and have been hands-on owners through the decades, it has been natural for us to maintain the family feel in our organization,” says Tim.
When the company began 30 years ago, the goals were rather basic. They wanted to provide a great service to the community and a good job for Tim, since at the time of the company’s founding he had just been laid off from another staffing company where he had been working long enough though to know he liked the business.

 


“Our employees reflect our success and never did we dream the company would grow and evolve into what it is today,” Tim admits without any hint of false modesty. “The ‘family’ part of this business means so much more than just the Doherty family. The much larger picture is how our company has provided meaningful and rewarding jobs for our employees and how this has impacted their families.”

 


Today, Doherty Staffing Solutions provides workforce solutions and job opportunities throughout the metro area. Three years ago, we moved our Brooklyn Park office to Brooklyn Center and it has been a huge success. We chose Brooklyn Center for the great location and we have had the opportunity to meet with a wealth of talent and business connections. In fact, we have been so successful that we expanded the office a year ago to accommodate the high volume of business and are looking to expand again. 

 

Gena Johnston has been the Recruiting Manager for Doherty Staffing for 6 years and has participated on the BCBA board for the past 3 years. She holds the great honor to be Chair of the association this year. "This is one of the most talented teams I have had the privilege to work with", Gena says.
