How did the organization begin?

One of the three original Minnesota School of Business campuses, MSB-Brooklyn Center has been serving students since opening its doors in 1989. The school has been in its present location at 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway since 1993. MSB is a career college that prepares career-focused, community-minded students for the global workforce. We offer Bachelors and Associate degrees as well as diploma and certificate options in the areas of business, health sciences, information technology and legal sciences. Masters programs are also offered online.

How do you reach out to the community for business?

MSB-Brooklyn Center extends the classrooms out to the community through its service-learning and applied-learning projects. All students participate in a service-learning or applied-learning activity, which enhances the academic experience, provides real service that meets community needs, offers valuable networking relationships and prepares students for professional and civic leadership.

How many employees do you have?

       67 staff and faculty

What are your hours of operation?

        M-F, 8 am-8 pm; Sat., 8 am-2 pm

Why do you think Brooklyn Center is a great place to do business?

The location of Brooklyn Center has been a strong factor for MSB’s 22-year history in this community. Our location provides easy access from both Minneapolis and the northern suburbs, which helps attract a number of students to our campus. We have also benefited from the willingness of local businesses to offer internship and job opportunities for MSB students.

What is unique about your business?

MSB-Brooklyn Center is a Military Friendly School, offering scholarship opportunities to service members and their families, including active-duty, reserve and those who were honorably discharged. In addition, MSB-BC offers individuals age 62 and over may take one course per quarter and up to four courses per year in a non-degree seeking status free of tuition charges.

Have you or do you currently give to the community?

If so, how do you give to the community?

The mission of all the MSB campuses is “We Care” and the Brooklyn Center campus shows it cares by having its employees volunteer time outside the office in the community. Every May all MSB employees participate in a Community Service Day, where an entire day is dedicated to volunteering at various venues. This past year the MSB-BC campus helped pick up trash at a local park and assisted with organizing and cleaning at Cars for Courage. MSB-BC employees also give time to the community on a quarterly basis in smaller groups.
